Start by watching this CBS news video having to do with the famous GM ignition switch recall of 2014:

CBS Evening News. (2014, February 25). GM expands ignition switch recall, says it’s linked to 13 deaths [Video file]. Retrieved from https://youtu.be/5Q8Ixxz7D-w

You can also review the associated timeline of the product recall in the following article:

Basu, T. (2014, March 31). Timeline: A history of GM’s ignition switch defect. Retrieved April 11, 2019, from NPR at  https://www.npr.org/2014/03/31/297158876/timeline-a-history-of-gms-ignition-switch-defect

In 2014, GM had to face the liability from a defective ignition switch in its Chevrolet Cobalt and other models. Great costs and apologies were part of the process. As of 2019, the matter was still unsettled with GM reportedly having spent $2.5 billion to settle and an eventual $1 billion settlement being negotiated.

For your initial Module 2 post, do some internet research and find a famous product liability case that has received a lot of media attention. Report back in your post as to what happened. Make sure at least one of the parties in the lawsuit is a business. Discuss how the company handled the case. (Do you think they did well or not? Why or why not?) Provide a link or reference. Explain what concepts from the background materials were illustrated by this case. In your responses to classmates we can discuss how we think the company handled the situation and whether fair resolutions were reached.
