Complete the Diagnosis and Mental Status Form based on the Theories in Action: Reality Therapy video from the unit studies. At the bottom of the Diagnosis and Mental Status Form, add a section that includes an assessment of the client’s strengths, coping skills, and level of hope. How would these factors be important in considering the current functioning and possible goals for therapy?
Diagnosis
At this point in your counseling education, you have had exposure to the process of diagnosing and have gained some familiarity with using the American Psychiatric Association’s (2000) Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV-ЅTR) as a tool. The knowledge and experience you have gained will provide a foundation as you move into your practicum and internship. Learning how to accurately diagnose is a lengthy process that develops as you gain more clinical experience.
